Description:

The US Census Bureau defines as Native American or Alaskan Native a person having origins in any of the peoples of North, Central and South America, and who maintain community attachment and tribal affiliation. Persons who identify as mixed race are not counted in this category.
The Bureau further defines:
American Indian as those who indicate their race as “American Indian,” enter the name of an Indian tribe, or report such entries as Canadian Indian, French American Indian, or Spanish-American Indian.
Alaska Native as those who identify themselves as Eskimos, Aleuts, and Alaskan Indians, or with responses such as Artic Slope, Inupiat, Yupik, Alutiig, Egegik and Pribilovian.
