% of Total Population that is Disabled, 2000

Description: Percentage of total population that is disabled.
Calculation = (Total # of Disabled) / (Noninstitutionalized Population 5 years and over)
Disability includes Sensory Disability, Physical Disability, Mental Disability, Self-care Disability, Go-Outside home Disability (16 years and over only), and Employment Disability (16 years and over only).

% of Male Population that is Disabled, 2000

Description: Percentage of all males that are disabled.
Calculation = (Total # of Disabled Males) / (Noninstitutionalized Male Population 5 years and over)

Description: Percentage of disabled persons who are mentally disabled.
Calculation = (# of Mentally Disabled) / (Total # of Disabled)
Mental Disability is where a person has a difficult time learning, remembering, or concentrating.

% of Disabled Needing Assistance, 2000

Description: Percentage of disabled persons who have a Go-Outside Home Disability.
Calculation = (# of Go-Outside Home Disabled) / (Total Disabled 16 years and over)
Go-Outside Home Disability is where a person (16 years and over only) has a difficult time going outside the home alone to shop or visit a doctor’s office.

% of Disabled Aged 65+ Needing Assistance, 2000

Description: Percentage of disabled persons 65 or more years old who have a Go-Outside Home Disability.
Calculation = (# of Go-Outside Home Disabled, Aged 65 and over) / (Total Disabled Aged 65 and over)
Go-Outside Home Disability is where a person (16 years and over only) has a difficult time going outside the home alone to shop or visit a doctor’s office.
